You have never wondered how much paper you consume and whether it was necessary to consume it.
In Bilky we want to lower the level of paper consumption in the world and our “pinito” in this fight, is our service. Even so, we know that many people ask themselves this question and that's why we've gathered some interesting data.
Belgians are the citizens who consume the most paper per year. Specifically, 318 kilos per person per year. They are followed by the Austrians with 252 kilos per person and then the Germans, Americans and Japanese. And how much paper do you use? Well, the answer is simple: you use 130 kilos of paper per year.
Our country is one of the main paper producers in Europe. Aragon is the Community that produces the most paper. Specifically, 33% with just over 2 million tons, followed by Catalonia, with 21% and almost one and a half million tons. As for cellulose, the main component of paper, it is the Basque Country which is the leader with 20% of the total production in our country.
Spain is the fourth largest forested country in the European Union, behind Russia, Sweden and Finland. A little more than 487,500 hectares of forest plantations produce 83% of the wood used by industry as raw material.
According to the Ministry of the Environment, we have gone from 13 million hectares in 1990 to 18 million hectares at the end of last year.
The sector is now trying to convert and become cleaner, so 32% of its energy comes from biomass. But 65% is still natural gas and 3% comes from other fuels. Water is another essential element, although it tries to be reused. During 2013, 125 million cubic meters were consumed in the manufacture of paper in our country, which made it possible to manufacture 8 million tons of paper and pulp.
